Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a collaborative, person-centered approach that helps people explore their own motivations for change while honoring autonomy, strengths, and lived experience.
This interactive session introduces peer and family support professionals to the foundational spirit and principles of MI and demonstrates how they can be applied when supporting individuals affected by substance use disorders.
Learners will learn to recognize ambivalence as a natural part of the change process, identify and evoke change talk, and explore practical models that can guide supportive conversations. Through real-world peer and family support scenarios, learners will practice integrating MI skills into everyday interactions to increase trust, strengthen engagement, and support self-directed recovery.
