In this two-day course, Peer and Family Support employees will gain invaluable knowledge and develop critical intervention skills to support individuals re-entering the community after incarceration.

- Illustrate how peer and family support can effectively help reduce recidivism by facilitating successful reentry of the individuals served
- Outline the workings of the criminal justice system at the federal, state, and local levels
- Evaluate the effectiveness of interventions available to peer and family support at various points of contact
- Analyze the unique challenges and opportunities of reentry after incarceration
- Interpret the nuances culture and demographics have on providing peer and family support
- Explain the relationship between trauma-informed care and involvement in the criminal justice system
- Discuss the challenges and opportunities inherent in an individual's forensic history
- Determine the importance of intervention at the moment of release
- Formulate how to support individuals as they navigate their interactions with courts, judges, law enforcement, parole, and legal representation
- Distinguish how to best support individuals in their relationships with friends and family
